Shawna in Lviv

Lviv is a beautiful city in Ukraine approximately a six hour drive west of Kiev.

It still maintains the beauty and architecture of the 16 and 17 century which is amazing considering it is only 60 km from the border of Poland and was occupied by both Russia and Germany before, during and after WW II.

Castles were the first thing we visited, so of course the teachers had a little fun while the kids went on a tour of the grounds.

One of the many adventures of my trip, with the Grade 7 class of PSI, included hunting lions. Lviv means lion and has been famous for the lions in its architecture since 1256. The founder of the city was named Leo.

Two famous writers are also featured here. Lviv is also famous for its folklore and we were told if we could reach and touch the finger of this writer, it would bring us good luck.
We also dared to venture in to a few of the many dungeons of Lviv. Some of which were burial grounds for the many churches in the area and others were prisons.

  Good 'ole torture chair.

Apparently Lviv is also the coffee and chocolate capital of Ukraine so we couldn't not enjoy those treats!!

First, the "Legends of the City" quest, then on to learn how to make Marzipan Minions.
Now Chocolate!!!!
Chocolate moustache's ....

solid, dark chocolate cameras but not just cameras. This shop has solid chocolate of just about any tool or gadget you can think of.

And finally...coffee with mounds of delicious, fresh chocolate melted right in.
